This new museum encompasses approximately 33,000 square meters of gallery space, library, public areas, maintenance, dining, storage and support areas. This building is one of only a few in the world designed using a canvas-like material. This project presented many engineering challenges, including the design of an air conditioning system that can maintain proper temperature and humidity to preserve sensitive artwork and manuscripts. The museum will has two levels. MEP spaces and service corridors will be located along the perimeter to allow for changes to specific galleries while maintaining the remaining galleries open to the public. An emergency generator will be provided to support art storage areas and selected galleries displaying artwork.

It was H.E. Sheikh Hassan Al Thani’s personal mission to build a collection that would highlight the significance of Arab art and would become a public resource. He also collected books and periodicals and began an artist residency program, which created a wealth of archival materials documenting Arab artists and artwork. Thanks for sharing the video.

Wassan Al-Khudhairi is the chief curator and acting director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, which opens December 30, 2010, in Doha, Qatar. With a collection of 6,300 works, plans for a research center, and a growing library, the museum is the first of its kind in the region. As the museum's opening day approaches, Al-Khudhairi opens up about the growing market for contemporary Arab art, censorship, and why Picasso and the Middle East have more in common than we think.

Due to France's geographical position and history of conquests, there have always been links between France and the Arab World. As a visitor in Paris, it is interesting to have a look at how France's colonial past has influenced and has been influenced by Arab/Muslim culture. John Williams custom challenge coins
